Sept. 14, 2009

We have a last minute show as a duo appearing at the Rock and Roll Hotel opening for A Hawk and a Hacksaw and Damon and Naomi on Sunday, September 20. 8:30pm.
Come say hi!

September 2009

Amy has been preparing a recital of 17th century English music on her new favorite instrument, the viola da gamba. While this is taking up much of her musical time, the next Garland of Hours album will incorporate some of these new sounds. The viola da gamba is a sort of ancestor of the cello. It has 6 or 7 strings and frets and is held between the knees and played with an underhanded bow. The sound is wistfully resonant. It was mainly used in the 16-17th centuries and fell from popularity as the louder violin family instruments became more in demand.

Summer 2009

Hi! we are getting ready to head to Europe to play some music and visit some family. We will be in Feldkirch, AT at the Sonderbar with the excellent Fucoustic on June 24, then a possible house concert in Zell an der Pram sometime around June 28 or 29. We will try to update from the road.

The rest of the summer will be dedicated to recording the third Garland of Hours record. It will incorporate a full band (Mary Timony, Jonah Takagi, Stefan Bauschmid, Amy Domingues) as well as more soundscapey instrumental stuff. Look for a DC show sometime at the end of summer.

Cheers!

Amy will be joining one of her favorite songwriters,  Bob Mould, for an acoustic set at the Birchmere in Alexandria on April 7, 2009. They'll be playing tunes from his past several solo records, including the very cello-heavy Workbook album.

Garland of Hours will be performing as a duo in Europe starting June 21, 2009. We are hoping to cover cities in Germany and Austria this trip, so if you'd like us to stop in your town please drop a line here. Tchuss!
