Amy has been preparing a recital of 17th century English music on her new favorite instrument, the viola da gamba. While this is taking up much of her musical time, the next Garland of Hours album will incorporate some of these new sounds. The viola da gamba is a sort of ancestor of the cello. It has 6 or 7 strings and frets and is held between the knees and played with an underhanded bow. The sound is wistfully resonant. It was mainly used in the 16-17th centuries and fell from popularity as the louder violin family instruments became more in demand. |

Hi! we are getting ready to head to Europe to play some music and visit some family. We will be in Feldkirch, AT at the Sonderbar with the excellent Fucoustic on June 24, then a possible house concert in Zell an der Pram sometime around June 28 or 29. We will try to update from the road. |
